Runners PIP Logo

Around half of all runners are injured through running each year1. Apart from the obvious discomfort, these injuries result in lost training sessions, missed races and a loss of performance. To add to this problem, failure to fully restore function to its pre-injury level has a significant impact and according to research accounts for 90% of all losses in running performance2.

The Runners PIP (Performance Improvement and Injury Prevention) programme has been developed by a physiotherapist with over 20 years experience of running and running injuries, and has been designed to improve biomechanics and muscle function to both reduce injury risk and maximise performance.

Following an in-depth evaluation by the physiotherapist any problems can be addressed using an individualised exercise programme. A report and professionally illustrated exercise sheet are provided.

Individuals who are currently suffering with an injury may still be able to do the Runners PIP but it is recommended that you check with the physiotherapist first (see contact details).

Runners PIP Assessment

Two different assessments are offered – The Complete Runners PIP and The Essential Runners PIP.

The Complete Runners PIP

The Complete Runners PIP includes a full biomechanical analysis, flexibility, balance, joint stability and muscle strength testing as well as screening for the signs of all common running problems and the residual effect of previous injury. Over 90 functional tests are performed to produce a comprehensive report, highlighting major and minor problem areas, as well as any areas which are better than normal (supranormal). The report includes the runner's functional health score (FHS) which is a straightforward measure of your current functional level and injury risk based on the comprehensive range of tests performed (see detail sheet for more information).

If necessary, following the assessment, exercises can be recommended to increase your functional health, decrease injury risk and enhance performance. For most individuals exercises will take no more than 3-6 minutes per day and require little or no equipment.

If required either a short or standard follow up session will be recommended at around 3-6 weeks in order to measure improvement and to check, amend or progress exercises as necessary.

Included

  • Full Runners PIP assessment (approximately 2 hours)
  • Runners PIP report
  • Exercises demonstrated and taught
  • Professionally illustrated exercise sheet
  • Treatment recommendations if required
The Essential Runners PIP

The Essential Runners PIP follows the same format as the Complete Runners PIP but reduces the number of test performed to the essential tests only (over 50 tests). Thus the Essential Runners PIP has the advantage of being less time consuming and can therefore be provided at a lower cost whilst still providing very useful information to reduce injury risk and improve performance. The disadvantage is that as the full battery of tests is not administered some problems may not be detected. A functional health score is not generated. As with the Complete Runners PIP, exercises can be recommended which will increase your functional health, decrease injury risk and enhance performance. If required a follow-up will be recommended.

Included

  • Essential Runners PIP assessment (approximately 1 hour)
  • Runners PIP report
  • Exercises demonstrated and taught
  • Professionally illustrated exercise sheet
  • Treatment recommendations if required
The Essential Runners PIP add-on

This is an add-on evaluation to upgrade the Essential Runners PIP to the Complete Runners PIP. This ensures that all problem areas can be identified and allows the generation of functional health score. It is recommended that the add-on is performed within one month of the Essential Runners PIP assessment to minimise the effect of any changes in function.

Prices
  • Complete Runners PIP £120 (2 hours)
  • Essential Runners PIP £70 (1 hour)
  • Essential Runners PIP add on £70 (1 hour)
  • Standard follow-up £35 (30 minutes)
  • Short follow-up £25 (20 minutes)
